The Story of the Vanity

This is the story of the search for a vanity. The only thing that I really wanted for Christmas was a vanity. I saw one that I liked at Bed, Bath, and Beyond that I kind of liked, but wasn't in love with. When we went back to look at it they were sold out, oh well guess it wasn't meant to be. Then we went to Schewels on Black Friday hoping to find one. The lady there said they didn't have any, but had ordered some that week. She couldn't show us a picture of one, but told us  what it looked like and it had three big drawers on both sides and cost about $119. That sounded like a good deal, so we stopped looking thinking that we had found the one. Well when they came in the vanity wasn't big at all and only had one tiny drawer in the middle, NOT what we were told at all. Oh well, back on the search.....we searched everyone in town and online but nothing like I wanted for a decent price. We finally went to an antique store and walking up I noticed a white vanity sitting outside it was in bad shape, it was warped and the top was coming off, but to me it had   potential!! We went inside and looked around, but nothing. On the way out I mentioned to Jody about him fixing it up and he said he thought it was in too far gone. I still thought differently, I was optimistic and had a lot of faith in my husband. I finally talked him into asking the guy how much he wanted for it. The guy said "That old thing, you can have it!". I was thrilled, at least we wouldn't be out anything if he couldn't fix it. Later that day Jody came back to get it and worked on it for about a week. He stripped all the white paint off, replaced the sides and the back and repaired the drawers. Then we picked out a new paint color and a mirror that he attached on to it. And today, my wonderful hubby unveiled the final product!! I loved it, it was even better than I had pictured!! I am thankful that God gave me such a wonderful husband, he did a beautiful job!

Making of the Christmas Card

Getting adults to cooperate for a picture is a piece of cake, getting together all the animals for a picture is a different story. Here are the pictures we took for our Christmas card. Enjoy! Bob Barker

Jody was recently working in the mountains, about five miles off the hard top, when he made a new friend. An older dog came near him while he was eating lunch, he shared his nabs with the dog and tried to get the dog to come up to him, but he wouldn't. So, when he was done for the day he tried one last time, but the dog was a little skittish. He got into his truck and started down the road, the dog ran after him. He stopped and tried  to get the dog again, but he still wouldn't come to him. This happen two more times, when finally the dog decided that he was tired of running and riding in the back of the truck would be a lot easier. Jody then went to all the houses near by and no one would claim the dog, so he brought him home. He is an older dog and was in pretty bad shape. He was very skinny and had a deep cut on his toe, as well as a few scars. It took him a few days to warm up to us, but now he is super friendly and so sweet. His toe is a lot better and he has all the food he can eat. We decided to name him "Bob Barker" because he is an older dog and we thought it would be a funny name for a dog :P 

Measuring Spoons

As promised, here are a picture of my new measuring spoons. At first I thought that would be handy to use in the kitchen, but I think they are too pretty to use!!

 

Tybee Island

About 20 minutes from Savannah, there is a small island called Tybee Island. I didn't realize till we got down there that is where "The Last Song" was filmed. Since I have read the book I was excited about seeing the different places that were in the book. 

The church from "Last Song", you can see the red steeple on the ground. They are going to open it and make it a wedding chapel.

Savannah (Part 2)

After making our reservations we went in a couple of shops. My favorite was Kitchen on the Square, it had everything possible for a kitchen. I bought some cute teaspoons that you hang on the wall, once Jody hangs them I will take a picture and post it because I think they are the cutest!! Now it was getting close to time for our reservation at Lady and Sons. Since we were the first reservations of the day, we got to see one of their traditions, where they come out and ring the "triangle" to let everyone know to "come and get it" LOL We both got the buffet and the food was really good. I really liked the cheesy garlic biscuits, baked chicken, mac & cheese, and Brunswick stew!! Beside the restaurant is Paula Deen's shop, I bought an autographed cookbook for my Nana.

After we enjoyed our delicious lunch we went on a tour of the city. We rode a trolley and were able to get off on stops and sightsee and then get back on and go to the next stop. It was very nice to be able to ride the trolley because it was really hot down there!!

Every tree in Savannah was covered in spanish moss, it is very beautiful and this picture does not do it justice.

Savannah Police Department

Thought it was funny and clever, the taxi side says "This ride cost $20.00", the police side says "This ride = $1800.00"

The Pirate's House - the first part with the flag on it, is the oldest standing building in Savannah. It has been built on to and is now a restaurant.

This was my favorite part of Savannah. It is called rainbow street because of the different color shutters on the houses.

This building was built by whatever materials they had at the time, as you can see it has a combination of bricks, rocks, etc. This was Jody's favorite.

The steeple in the beginning of the movie "Forrest Gump" where the feather is flying through the air.

The Catholic Church in Savannah, they spent over 11 million dollars on the improvements inside the church. It is absolutely beautiful!!! Pictures below:
