Sawyer is ONE!!

12  & 13 month update

Weight & Length: Sawyer is 25 pounds. His length is 31 inches long.

Sleeping: He was sleeping all night till a few weeks ago then started waking up once a night, now it is hit and miss. Sometimes he sleeps all night, others he doesn't. Hopefully he gets back to his old self soon.

Eating: Drinking mommy's milk in the mornings and at night and whole milk during the day. He eats 3 meals a day, and generally eats 2-3 snacks. He loves to eat. He is eating lots of new foods now that he is older. We try to stay away from fried or processed food and only give him healthy foods. The longer I can keep him away from unhealthy foods the better!

Diapers: Size 3, but they are finally getting snug

Clothing: 12-18 months

Hair: curly and blonde

Eyes: Medium blue

Personality: This last month he has really been a super sweet baby. Enjoys snuggling, kisses, and hugs! He will lean his forehead to mine and just grin, melts my heart. He has been very playful and is beginning to play by himself for longer periods of time. He has not been as clingy or whiny as he was a few months ago.

Milestones:

  • Walks all the time
  • Starting to run too
  • 8 teeth
  • Helps get dressed and undressed
  • Saying more words - Dixie, Kitty-cat, Deer, Fish, Nana
  • Takes apart and puts toys back together

Firsts: Sawyer celebrated his first birthday! Friends and family joined us for a nautical theme birthday party. Everything went perfectly! Sawyer went to his first pumpkin patch and picked out a cute little pumpkin. We also took a trip to Mabry's Mill. Sawyer attended his first family reunion.

Adventures this month: Sawyer celebrated his 2nd Halloween. He dressed up as Bamm Bamm from the Flintstone's and his friend Sophie was Peebles! We went to several birthday parties in the last two months.

Sawyer - 11 months old

Weight & Length: Sawyer finally moved up to 24 pounds. His length is about 30 inches.

Sleeping: Still sleeping all night :)

Eating: Drinking mommy's milk every 3-5 hours, eats 3 meals a day, and generally eats 2-3 snacks. This last week we have been working on adding cow's milk into his diet. Right now he is drinking 2 bottles a day of cow's milk. He seems to really like it, but he prefers it warmed. This month I introduced him to brussel sprouts, mango, and cherries. He loved the brussel sprouts! He eats all the time!

Diapers: Tried the size 4 and they are too big, sticking with the size 3 for now

Clothing: slowly growing out of his 9-12 months

Hair: curly and blonde

Eyes: Medium blue

Personality: This last month he has really been a super sweet baby. Enjoys snuggling, kisses, and hugs! He will lean his forehead to mine and just grin, melts my heart. He has been very playful and is beginning to play by himself for longer periods of time. He has not been as clingy or whiny as he was a few months ago.

Milestones:

  • Walking more and more
  • Up to 6 teeth
  • Identifying parts of his face and naming them
  • Pretend play...so cute, when he pretends to drink from a cup, he makes pretend slurping noises too :)
  • Understands that objects continue to exist, even when they are not seen
  • Identifying certain objects

Firsts: Sawyer went on his first trip to the zoo. He loved looking at all the animals and I was amazed how he could even quickly spot the little ones that were hidden. He would point and shout "look, look, look". He also went to "school" for the first time....well sorta lol, my friend Dee kept him and she home-schools her little girl. Once a week all the home-school students get together for a lesson and Sawyer went along.

Adventures this month: Not a lot of adventure this month since I went back to work so there isn't a lot of free time. We have been busy planning his first birthday party!

Sawyer - 10 months old

Weight & Length: Sawyer is holding steady at 23 pounds. He stays on the go all the time! His length is about 30 inches.

Sleeping: Finally back to sleeping all night!! Yay! During the week when we go to work, we usually have to wake him up to get him ready. On the weekends, he usually sleeps in till 8 or 9. It is so wonderful to sleep all night again! He seems happier and I know I am too! When he is sleepy he always plays with his ears. (I have been meaning to add that on here for months, but keep forgetting. I try so hard to remember everything, even the little things because he has grown so fast, faster than I could have ever imagined! And I want to cherish every memory, every cute little thing he does or says.)

Eating: Drinking mommy's milk every 3-5 hours, eats 3 meals a day, and generally eats 2-3 snacks. This month I made him roast beef, spaghetti squash, red potatoes, spinach, corn, and cheese. He liked the corn the most and the cheese the least. He loves his snacks....yogurt bites, dried fruit, and puffs. He could eat them all day. We are breaking away from a lot of the pureed foods and eating more bite size pieces. He loves feeding himself, of course I get teary eyed because he is becoming more independent.

Diapers: Size 3, when we run out these I might try a size 4.

Clothing: 9-12 months and pulled out some of his summer 12 month outfits

Hair: growing, growing, growing.....he will probably be getting a hair cut before his first birthday

Eyes: Medium blue

Personality: I know I have said this before, but he loves dancing and music!! He is always dancing, clapping, and singing. He is also developing a little bit of a temper. If he has something he isn't suppose to have and we take it away he will let his unhappiness be known, luckily he recovers quickly. Other than the occasional meltdown he is a happy, happy baby. He is playing with his toys more and understands the concept of many of them. He will pick up my cell phone and put it up to his mouth and say hello. It's amazing how much they pick up on and understand how things work.

Milestones:

  • Took his first steps
  • Still only 2 teeth
  • Saying more words...he points at things and says "look" or "that"
  • Identifying parts of his face
  • Identifying certain objects

Firsts: We went camping for the first time at Yogi Bear campgrounds. He loved driving the golf cart and playing outside. Sawyer went for his first boat ride at the lake. At Jordyn's birthday party, he bounced on a trampoline, he really enjoyed that...smiled and laughed the whole time. He went to his first show, Disney's Pirates and Princesses. He loved when Mickey & Minnie came out, he pointed and ooooed and aahhhed with excitement.

Adventures this month: Celebrated lots of friends & families birthdays.

Sawyer - 9 months old

Weight & Length: Sawyer's weight stayed the same this month, 23 pounds. Since he is mobile I imagine he is burning a lot more calories. His length is about 30 inches.

Sleeping: His sleep is still very unpredictable. There have been nights where he has woken every 2 hours like a newborn and then there are other nights that he has only woken twice. I definitely think it has something to do with his teeth coming in.

Eating: He is still drinking mommy's milk every 2-5 hours. This month I made him chicken, blueberries, cantaloupe, cucumbers, pickles, asparagus, and white potatoes. He liked the pickles the most and the white potatoes the least.

Diapers: Size 3, getting a little snug....but I think he will continue to wear them a while longer.

Clothing: Packed up all his 6-9 clothes and he is only wearing his 9-12 month outfits.

Hair: Getting long, trimmed around his ears again. It amazes me how different he looks with hair compared to his pictures before when he just had a little fuzz.

Eyes: Medium blue

Personality: He loves my keys and he loves straws. He will steal your drink straw in a hurry. He enjoys this warm weather and getting to be outside more. He is beginning to play more with his toys. This month he has been more clingy and there have been a few times that he has cried when someone besides his mommy or daddy was holding him. He usually just goes with the flow, but I guess he has been spoiled since I have been home with him all summer.....however I have read that at 9 months babies separation anxiety begins to peak. He also tends to like women over men. He will smile and talk to women at the stores, but isn't crazy over some men. He is getting into everything, crawling, climbing, etc.

Milestones:

  • 2 Teeth!! He has the two front bottom teeth...oh the joys of teething
  • Talking more, squealing more, many people have commented that he is more vocal than before
  • Standing by himself for longer periods of time
  • Understands when we say "come here"

Firsts: Sawyer was dedicated this month. We also celebrated our first Father's Day. We made daddy a picture and got him a few other gifts. Sawyer went to his first indoor play area. We also attempted a movie with Sarah and Sophie, but the movie was boring, luckily it was only a dollar. The babies did good, the mommies just got bored with the lame movie. Sawyer celebrated his first 4th of July cooking out with family. Then we went to see fireworks the next day. Sawyer took his first vacation to Charleston, SC and enjoyed time at the beach and the aquarium. He loved both of them! I will try to post a blog about our trip soon.

Adventures this month: Sawyer and his daddy went with me to The Color Run, a 5k for American Cancer Society. It was so much fun! We have also been enjoying the pool and working in the garden.

Sawyer - 8 months old

Weight & Length: This month Sawyer weighed in at 23 pounds. I didn't have a chance to measure him.

Sleeping: This last month has been crazy. He has woken up more than usually. I am not sure if he is teething or what. I think he only slept through the night once or twice. He is sleeping in, which is nice, especially after waking up a few times in the middle of the night. Thankfully when he does wake up it isn't for very long.

Eating: He is still drinking mommy's milk every 2-5 hours. This month I made him watermelon, peaches, yogurt, green beans, and carrots. He loved them all especially the yogurt.

Diapers: Size 3

Clothing: Slowly growing out of his 6-9 months. They are getting a little snug on him. He has been wearing a lot of his 9-12 months outfits too.

Hair: Growing fast, I had to trim around his ears because it was starting to hang over. I think his hair is going to be wavy. It is definitely not stick straight, but it isn't super curly either.

Eyes: Medium blue

Personality: He loves music, if a song comes on he will stop and start clapping and dancing. He loves being outside and cries to go back out when we bring him in. We got him a little car he rides in as we push it and he pretends to drive, he loves it! He loves picking up objects and studying them.

Milestones:

  • Crawling! He is mobile now and can get where he wants to go, which is usually wherever mommy or daddy are at.
  • Saying yeah, ball, and hey
  • Pulling up and standing more and more, climbing up things
  • Dancing

Firsts: Sawyer took his first trip up on the mountain. We visited some family and enjoyed the scenic views. His Aunt Leah brought him back his first drum from her mission trip in Africa. He also went fishing for the first time. He went swimming for the first time too. It took him a little while to get used, but once he did he loved it.

Adventures this month: He had a lot of play dates with his friend Sophie. They are the cutest together. I am enjoying spending my summer off with him!

Sawyer - 7 months old

Weight & Length: This month Sawyer weighed in at 22 pounds and is still holding steady between 28 and 29 inches.

Sleeping: He is continuing to sleep through the night and some nights wakes to eat once. He still likes to sleep in....hope this continues because summer break starts next week :)

Eating: He is still drinking mommy's milk every 2-5 hours. This month I made him bananas and egg yolk, he loved the bananas. He wasn't crazy about the texture of the eggs, but he still eats them. I have also started giving him water in a sippy cup. He is getting the hang of it.

Diapers: Size 3

Clothing: 6-9 months, excited to see him in his swim trunks in a few days :)

Hair: His hair is lightening up and it is starting to fill out more in the back.

Eyes: Medium blue

Personality: He enjoys listening to music and watching Curious George. As soon as the beginning song comes on he gets excited. He loves the color red and playing peekaboo. He loves going in his walker. He gets his little legs going and throws his arms open and away he goes. He enjoys playing with mommy's pots, pans, and wooden spoons. He loves bath time and his Johnny Jump Up!

Milestones:

  • Can go from a laying position to a sitting position
  • Has been waving and saying bye-bye, but now he can do the two together
  • Pulling up and standing
  • Gets up on all fours and rocks, he can crawl a little ways backward, but he hasn't figured out the forward part yet
  • Clapping

Firsts: Sawyer celebrated Mommy's birthday. We went to a MS Walk and then enjoyed a cookout with my family. We went to the park and he swung in the baby swings for the first time, he loved it! He also celebrated my first Mother's Day with me, I am so blessed to have a wonderful son! We also let him pick out a toy for the first time. We gave him a few choices and we got the one he seemed the most interested in.

Adventures this month: Spending lots of time with family and friends. Shopping for a Mother's Day gift. We also planted our yearly garden.

Sawyer - 6 months old

Weight & Length: This month Sawyer weighed in at 21 pounds and is still measuring 28.5 inches.

Sleeping: He is continuing to sleep through the night and some nights wakes to eat once. He sleeps in his pack and play in our bedroom. We tried letting him sleep in his crib, but somehow he knows the difference. He wakes up screaming because he knows he is alone.

Eating: He is still drinking mommy's milk every 2-5 hours. This month I made him peas and squash, he loved them both. Glad he liked the squash because I am sure we will have loads in the garden this summer. So far he seems to like everything we have given him and he gets so excited when he sees his bowl of food. Thankfully he isn't a picky eater like I was when I was little. I will be interested to see if he likes tomatoes....because we both dislike them.

Diapers: Size 3

Clothing: Packed up a lot of his clothes recently. He is wearing 6-9 month in everything. He still has 0-3 pants that fit his waist, but I had to pack them because they were too short on his legs.

Hair: His hair is lightening up and he is getting a lot more on top than anywhere else. In pictures, it sometimes looks like he has a mohawk :)

Eyes: Medium blue

Personality: I love this stage he is at......very playful, always smiling laughing. Sometimes he can be serious though too. He is nosey and wants to see what is going on. He will hear his daddy open the front door and will turn his head just waiting for him to walk in the door. He mainly just goes with the flow.

Milestones:

  • Sits on his own
  • Reaches for people (I thought he was just wanting to touch our hands, but he doesn't always go...if he doesn't want to go, he will turn back towards me and bury his head in my chest. I think this is sweet, but the person he just rejected may not lol)
  • Lots of babbling
  • He has been standing since his first month, but I have recently been letting him hold on to things and stand. He does this really well.
  • Knows his name
  • Definitely saying ma-ma and da-da and knows what he is saying. He will look at me or try to get my attention and say ma-ma. MELTS MY HEART!!!

Firsts: Sawyer went with mommy to her first 5k. He played with bunnies and chicks for the first time during his Easter pictures. He had his first Easter. We gave him an Easter basket with lots of goodies and his Grammy (my mom) gave him a basket too. We went to church and he was dressed in his Easter outfit and then enjoyed Easter festivities with family that afternoon.

Adventures this month: Sawyer has been able to hang out with his friends, Sophie and Edyn (they were also born in October). They are so cute together. They will reach out their hands and touch each other. Watching them all grow up together is going to be so much fun!

Sawyer - 5 months old

Weight & Length: This month Sawyer weighed in at 20 pounds and measured 28.5 inches. He is finally starting to slow down a little bit.

Sleeping: He is continuing to sleep through the night and some nights wakes to eat once. He has taken one nap in his crib so far. Usually when he naps during the day one of us enjoys cuddling with him. I have not tried to put him in his crib at bedtime yet. Maybe next month :P

Eating: He is still drinking mommy's milk every few hours. In the mornings he doesn't feed as often, but during the evening he has to eat every 2 hours. He is still eating avocados and apples and enjoys them more than he did at first. This month I introduced him to sweet potatoes and pears. He loved both of them and you cannot feed them to him fast enough!

Diapers: Since he has only gained a pound since last month, he is still wearing either size 2 or 3. We are down to his last pack of 2's, so we probably will just stick with the 3's instead of buying more.

Clothing: Sawyer is now wearing 3-6 months and some 6-9 months. His little feet are growing too, he can barely get his chubby little feet in a size 2, but the size 3 look too big. Thankfully he doesn't have to wear shoes everyday like we do.

Hair: His hair is getting long enough that we can actually part it and comb it to one side. It is so soft, I love it! The color is a dark blonde.

Eyes: Medium blue, they look different shades of blue in different light. His eyelashes are getting long too!

Personality: Still very sweet and laid back. However he does seem a little bit more clingy lately. He doesn't like to be left in a room alone. You leave for a second and he fusses. Then when you come back, he stops fussing and just smiles...so sweet!

Milestones:

  • Sits on his own for several minutes
  • Rolls from tummy to back (Actually did this while I was taking his 5 month pictures)
  • Raises chest with arms while on his tummy
  • Tries to get up on his knees
  • Saying ma-ma, da-da, and bye bye - I don't know if I should count these as his first words because I don't think he actually knows what he is saying. He has been saying ma-ma for over a month. Makes me happy either way :)

Firsts: Sawyer moved up to his first big boy car seat. He has almost reached the length limit and he was getting too heavy to tote around in the infant seat. He had his first Valentine's Day. It was probably not one we won't to remember though. We were all three sick with some type of stomach bug. Fortunately he wasn't as sick as us and it only lasted a day for him. We didn't get to celebrate or go out. Although we did get him a fleece blanket to play on for Valentine's Day. It has owls, giraffes, turtles, and other animals on. He celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday by dressing up as Thing 1.

Adventures this month: We have been able to go to the park a few times. He usually stays awake for a lap or two and then dozes off. We went to a family get together at my great aunt's house. At first, all the loud people scared him, but after a few minutes he got use to. Today (which will technically fall into next months post, but I might forget by then) we went to a kite festival at our local park. It was the first day that it was really warm outside, so it was nice to take him out and let him enjoy the sunshine. We also went to a birthday party at Teddy Mountain. Sawyer had a giraffe made and we named it Fred.

Sawyer - 4 months old

Weight & Length: This month Sawyer weighed in at 19 pounds and measured 28 inches. He is growing too fast for me! I really wish I could freeze time because I am enjoying my time with my precious boy.

Sleeping: He has slept through the night multiple times this past month. It is still hit or miss. If he doesn't sleep through the night he usually wakes just once. The doctor says it time to start working on sleeping through the night every night and in his own crib in his room!! Ugh......I guess he is right I just didn't want to hear it...lol....we will start small with naps. The other day I laid him in his own crib to nap for the first time. That didn't last long he was awake and laughing and smiling within 2 minutes.

Eating: He is still drinking mommy's milk every 2-4  hours. He can go longer now without eating especially if he is busy playing. We have tried some real food this month. His first food was avocado, he seemed to like them......he just has a hard time figuring out the spoon. We has also tried apples, he also liked those. Hoping to add sweet potatoes to the mix soon.

Diapers: He can wear a size 3 in some brands and a size 2 in others. We mainly use size 3 incase he has a blowout lol Call us crazy, but we have also been working on infant potty training. He has pooped and peed in the potty many times. I am not expecting him to be completely potty trained next week, but want to get him familiar with the process. It seems that little boys take their sweet time when learning to use the potty, so I figured we should get a jump start on it now :0)

Clothing: Sawyer is now wearing 3-6 months and some 6-9 months. His 3-6 months pants fit his waist and legs, but he is needing 6-9 in many of his shirts because his torso is so long. We have purchased his Easter outfit and I cannot wait till he can wear it, it's super cute! Definitely something you have to buy early because baby clothes sell out fast. The shirt I bought was actually the last in his size.

Hair: His hair is growing so fast. It looks longer everyday! The color is a dark blonde.

Eyes: Medium blue with a hint of gray...asked the doctor today if he thought they would change anymore and he said probably not!! I hope not, I was hoping for a blue eyed boy, but knew it would be a slim chance since neither me or Jody have blue eyes.

Personality: So far he seems to be a very sweet, happy, laid back baby. He is hardly ever fussy and just goes with the flow. I sure hope this last ;) He is very sweet and loves to hold mommy or daddy's hand to go to sleep. I can see a little bit of shyness in him too, sometimes when he smiles at someone, he will turn his head in a shy way. It is the cutest thing!

Milestones:

  • Sits on his own for several seconds
  • Grasp objects and put them in mouth
  • Falls asleep on his own
  • Pays attention to a very small object
  • Babbles

Firsts: Sawyer went to his first birthday party. Even though it was a girl's party, he still had fun and enjoyed people watching. He also enjoyed his first super bowl, even though he has no clue what football is he liked watching those guys run around. And he even took advantage of the blackout and took some time to eat some yummy avocados.

Adventures this month: We attended my school's black history play. He was a very good audience member and didn't cry or fuss. He enjoyed watching the kids sing, dance, and act. Not much other adventure to report on this month. He has just been discovering and playing with all his toys. It has been so cold out we don't want to get out and do anything. Hoping spring comes soon, so we can go back to the park some more.
